Your Woodstream Farms HOA wants to alert you to the importance of being vigilant with regard to protecting your homes, vehicles, personal property, and pets against the threat of criminal activity in our neighborhood.
We recently met with the Amherst Police at their headquarters. They helped us put together this guidance. There is a criminal element that frequently cruises through neighborhoods like ours looking for opportunities to steal cars, automobile license plates, delivered packages, small pets, as well as lawn furniture and machinery. They also look for and check out garage doors, entrance doors, and windows that are left open and unlocked. Please take careful note of the following and be proactively vigilant.
1. Vehicles parked outside
Double-check and lock all your vehicles when they are parked outside. Remove all car and home keys and garage door openers that are accessible.
2. Open garage doors
Keep your garage doors closed and locked as much as possible. Lock all smaller entrance doors attached to your garage.
3. Lock all your doors and windows
Keep your screen doors, access doors, and ground-floor windows locked. Open windows on ground floors provide easy access.
4. Packaged deliveries
Do not leave delivered packages sitting outside for extended periods of time.
5. Mailboxes
Keep your mailboxes in good repair. Do not allow them to overflow. This is a sure sign that you are not at home.
6. Safeguard your pets
Keep pets under watch when they are outside.
7. Neighborly vigilance
Neighborly vigilance is one of the best ways to protect yourself, your neighbors, and our neighborhood from criminal activity. Do not hesitate to call the police if you see suspicious activity: 716.689.1311.
8. Outside white lighting
Installing and maintaining outside white lighting โ not colored holiday lights โ around your home is an excellent home safeguard.
9. Burglar alarms and outside surveillance cameras
Install burglar alarms and/or outside cameras that can be easily monitored.
